A beautiful highland village, Scourie (pronounced 'Scoury') overlooks the sea and is set amongst some of the finest wild and natural scenery in the country, if not the world..
A crofting community, Scourie is halfway between Durness and Ullapool and a great base for exploring Sutherland and the north west Highlands of Scotland.
If you are wanting to stay and appreciate the surroundings or are passing as you tour the Highlands and NC500, we would welcome you to Greenhill and give you a fine Highland stay.
Originally part of the Mackay Clan territory, the birthplace in 1640 of General Hugh Mackay of Scourie who rose to become Commander-in-Chief of the army in in 1689, Scourie became a centre for crofting and fishing. Like much of the Highlands the community suffered during the clearances but in recent times has become well known for its links with Handa Island, a nature reserve ran by the Scottish Wildlife Trust and home to over 200,000 sea birds including 250 pairs of Puffin. Within the North West GeoPark and close to many places of outstanding scenery and nature.
